SOTM Meeting Minutes for Feb 20, 1999Attendees: Alex J, Anjali, Margot, NielsEnd of the quarterThe rink is rumored to be officially closing at the end of ninth week, which gives us two more weeks of classes. During the last week of classes we'd like to have cookies and other fun stuff for the kids. If you are interested in getting together to bake some, email me and/or the list like last year.FundraiserTwo ideas were discussed: first, the party at the rink. Margot is going to talk to the rink manager Sunday to see if we could have some ice time donated one week night during ninth week for a fundraiser. We'd charge students $3.00 or so, and they'd get skate rental, food, and music. More on this soon--we'll need posters and such to advertise. The second idea (Margot's) was for charging for group lessons next year for students at the lab schools. AttendanceThere was a serious problem last week with attendance. Alex recommended that in the future volunteers will get a call the night before they're supposed to work. The volunteers were Margot for Sunday night, Anjali for Monday night, and Alex for Wednesday night. Anjali recommended that we require teachers to find replacements for themselves if they know they cannot make it on a certain day.Volunteer InfoMost of the phone numbers we obtained from volunteers last year are no longer valid. If your number has changed, please email Basil (bmcheria) with your new number.Extra-curricular WorkNiels reported on his communications with the Blue Gargoyle. If enough people are interested, we would like to start an after school program with some of their kids.Skate DonationsRoughly a dozen pairs of children's figure skates were donated to us last summer. To be made usable, they need a sharpening, which Margot volunteered to help with. Then we need to decide whether we wish to loan them to the rink, give them to the rink, or raffle them off. The consensus was to loan them to the rink, possibly raffling a pair or two.Submitted by Alex Jacoby, February 20, 1999 |
