Happy summer everyone :) Here's my rough breakdown of what happened at the last meeting (Saturday, June 6), in case you're interested... Saturday... a lifetime ago. Well, here's what I can remember: 1. Officer positions: We need a secretary, to record and send out minutes. Carol Lin volunteered. Other positions were created/revised from what appears in our by-laws, the changes resulting from our experiences last year. Alex Meier volunteered for Treasurer, Basil Cherian for volunteer coordinator, Niels Bradshaw for curriculum coordinator, and myself for chairman. We're going to see if the two officers who left early (Margot Bell and Dennis Korneff) have any interest in the above positions before making them official though. We also more clearly defined the role of an Officer: basically you need to attend half of the meetings, and at volunteer for at least one or two lessons so you have some idea of what's going on. 2. We're planning on making the organization more organized: regular meetings, more official, bureaucratic actions rather than one-person-do-all style of action taken last year. I don't recall how often our meetings are going to be in the fall, but someone else has written it down. Twice a month I think. 3. Req's for (teaching) volunteers: one on-ice training, one first-aid training, one meeting each month. 4. We're going to fundraise in the fall. 5. Classes: Start 3rd week, winter quarter. We will go to schools to introduce ourselves to classes ahead of time. Instructions will be given, and groups set up. Everything *very* organized. Each group will spend 45 min at rink, 15 for skates on/off, 30 for skating. We will teach six classes a week. We will offer schools the time slots for which we had the most volunteers last year, and hope/pray that volunteer scheduling trends remain constant. We will offer the slots on a first-come, first-served basis to area schools, with the understanding that if, come third week, the volunteers aren't available, we will delay the start of classes for rescheduling. I believe we decided to recommend a 3-week series of classes for groups of students, but this decision would be left to schools. The groups of students will be divided into smaller groups for lessons, and the same student volunteer will work with the same group of students each week they come. 6. We need to get a more serious commitment from the rink for our program. Last year worked because nobody ever wanted to rent the ice, but we'd like to have more assurance that the ice will be ours when we've scheduled for the volunteers, busses, and schools to come. I think that's basically it. It was a long meeting, and I didn't take notes. Please email me with any corrections/comments. -Alex |
